Paint & Found Images In this workshop we will combine an element from a magazine — vintage or contemporary — with paint to create new settings and surreal placements for our objects. In my own work, I am very drawn to vintage images of travel - cars, suitcases, etc. and I like to start by gluing these to the page and then painting around and on top of these images. By starting off with a found image, you can have fun with color and narrative and try out new possibilities for making artwork. We will spend time at the beginning of class mixing colors and color matching to our image to intergrate our found image with our paint. We will also start the workshop with an artist talk in the gallery where I will be showing a new collection of vintage car paintings in my solo show, “Women in Cars,” on view in April 2026 at mighty mighty gallery + studio. $185, 10 - 3 Materials: Paper to paint on - mixed media weight or watercolor paper, at least 9x12, loose or in a sketchbook Your favorite watercolor, gouache, acrylic, or acrylic gouache hybrid paint (some paint is available in the studio) A few different sized paint brushes, at least one fairly small brush for details Water cup and cloth for cleaning your brush Palette, plate, or plexi, or a flat surface to mix paint on Optional: Low water glue for attaching the magazine image to the paper (Yes! Paste, Nori paste, GLOO glue stick, or others) - some glue is also available in the studio Found image you’d like to use in your work - more vintage magazines and other images will be available in class Pens, paint pens, or other mixed media supplies you'd like to experiment with
