The body of works by Anthony Grant continue the artists quest to serve narratives that challenge viewers to question their own perceptions, identities, and to consider that what is before them is only a series of beginnings. Using collage as his preferred technique Anthony’s pieces show evidence of his technical graphic design skills but without the constraints of external influences or objectives. Intuition and introspection are key drivers of his work. The imagery found in his pieces are often sourced from African American publications of the 70’ - 80’s, found or self-generated typographic elements, and drawings (by the artist, his daughter, or appropriated characters from pop culture). Through the act of cutting and pasting source materials the remaining scraps often tell their own stories. The end results contain poems from off-cuts that quite literally fall into place. The works are rich with double meanings that when combined with imagery leave the viewer in a newfound contemplative state.
