Selena Scott’s work explores Black identity through themes of Afropessimism, colonialism, and the enduring structures that shape contemporary understandings of Blackness.  
bio:  Selena Scott is a British artist and graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art, based in San Francisco. Her research-led practice examines colonial memory, the formation of identity through history, and the afterlives of Caribbean exploitation. Working primarily across oil painting and textiles, Scott brings portraiture, symbolism and archival research together to examine the relationship between rage and repair. Her work seeks to redefine the portrayal of Black subjects within a medium historically used to perpetuate Western ideals.
