more about this class

Create a one-of-a-kind ornament to adorn your holiday tree or give as a gift for the holidays! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to sew a simple yet beautiful ornament using your own fabric scraps. A reusable pattern will be provided for you to take home and make more on your own. This class is best suited for students with basic sewing machine experience. We will have some scraps on hand but please consider bringing the following: A selection of mid-weight cotton, linen, or natural fiber blend scraps (or fat quarters) A small amount of cotton, wool, or polyfill for stuffing Thread, pins, and hand-sewing needles. BIO: Sonya studied drawing and printmaking in high school with every intention of going to art school. Life intervened, as did other areas of fascination, eventually leading to an MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College. As a self-taught artist, she enjoys the freedom of exploring and stretching mediums. Preferring to work in project series, Sonya practices what she calls ‘conceptual craft’. More examples of her art can be found at www.sonyaphilip.com. Sonya lives in San Francisco with her husband and three children.
