Encaustic Painting Workshop: Exploring Wax and Mixed Media In this workshop participants will learn about the art of encaustic painting (painting with beeswax) and complete a mixed media encaustic art piece on wood panel incorporating several techniques. This is an opportunity for people with some basic painting experience to learn encaustic technique from a painter with over twenty-five years of experience with the medium. We will learn the basics of encaustic painting including sourcing affordable supplies and equipment, creating encaustic paints and combining encaustic with collage, carving/drawing and oil painting. Independent exploration will be encouraged. Each participant will leave with an original artwork on wood panel that incorporates these techniques plus an extra panel for experimentation. Lisa will share many tips and tricks that she has developed over a 30 year painting career. Important notes please read: Participants must have at least basic/beginner painting experience with oils and/or acrylic paint. This is an introductory class, it is not for people with a lot of encaustic painting experience, unless you want a refresher! Everyone is required to wear closed toe shoes, bring an apron to wear and have on either short sleeves or sleeves that can be rolled up. If you are sensitive to fumes from solvent you should bring a mask, we will provide ventilation. Each participant is encouraged to bring an apron and any collage materials including textiles, photographs and paper that they would like to try with the encaustic paint, Lisa will provide collage materials as well. *** this workshop does not include instruction for gilding/gold leaf.
