Dress Making 101 Make the garment that started it all! Dress No. 1 is a versatile, sleeveless A-line dress with a comfortable fit. The neckline and armholes are finished with bias tape, and patch pockets add both style and functionality. In this workshop, you’ll learn essential sewing techniques, including cutting pattern pieces, finishing seams, and making your own bias tape. The pattern, available in nine sizes, will be provided for you to take home. This is a beginner-friendly class, but you should have some prior experience using a sewing machine. What to Bring: Fabric: Approximately 2.5 yards of pre-washed mid-weight fabric (linen, cotton, or a natural fiber blend). Matching thread Sizing & fabric details: Find more information here. A limited number of sewing machines are available for use, or you’re welcome to bring your own—just be sure to pack the foot pedal and power cord! BIO: BIO: Sonya Philip has always been drawn to making things, inspired by her architect father and designer mother. Raised in a family that valued craftsmanship, she developed a deep appreciation for handmade work. Sonya studied drawing and printmaking before earning an MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College. A self-taught artist, she embraces the freedom to explore and blend mediums, focusing on what she calls ‘conceptual craft.’ Sonya lives in San Francisco with her husband and three children. When scheduling classes, please note that workshops will be automatically canceled if enrollment is four participants or fewer. If this occurs, your credit will be applied to the next available workshop of the same name. If no future session is scheduled, a full refund will be issued. Also, you can cancel your class up to 7 days prior to the scheduled date. In the event of a cancellation, you will receive a credit toward your next booking. Please be aware that we do not offer refunds.
