Class Description Spend an afternoon with artist Shaine Drake exploring the art of Suminagashi marbling. This centuries-old Japanese technique involves floating inks on water and shaping patterns with breath and simple tools to create fluid, organic designs. During the session, Shaine will demonstrate various ways to apply the ink, allowing for a range of unique patterns. You’ll have plenty of time to experiment and create a collection of marbled papers, perfect for cards, gift wrap, tags, or framing as standalone art. PLEASE NOTE: Marbled papers will be fully wetted in the process and laid down to air dry during the class. Still wet papers will need to be picked up next-day or at a later date arranged with Mighty Mighty Studio. BIO: Shaine Drake is a San Francisco-based artist creating work through the meditative process of marbling. Applying marbling to a variety of different surfaces, like paper, fabric, leather, and ceramic, Shaine forms abstract interpretations of the world around her...trying to make sense of it. She is fascinated and challenged by this process that asks for slow, light-handed, repetitive movements and can serve as a kind of sensory therapy where the act of marbling is just as fulfilling as the final result. Shaine works in collaboration with artists, friends, and small businesses to create small batch custom marbled items, while also working on personal projects exploring the medium.
