Sumi painting is a meditative practice rooted in simplicity and balance, originated in East Asia over a thousand years ago. In this workshop, we’ll focus on simple techniques for painting bamboo trees, landscapes, and animals such as cats and bunnies. With easy-to-learn techniques and expressive strokes, this class is all about creativity and fun. A sumi painting kit will be available for purchase for $25, which includes 2oz sumi ink, 3 brushes, watercolor papers, a palette, paper towels, and plastic cups. Students are welcome to bring their own materials but are encouraged to purchase the set for the best outcome. Payment can be made via Venmo or cash to the teacher on the day of the class. Please note: Sumi ink permanently stains fabric. Because of this, we recommend wearing black or dark-colored clothing to the class. BIO: Alice Koswara is an illustrator, painter, and creative director based in San Francisco. She began her artistic journey in 2009 and has since exhibited her work in galleries and stores across the United States and internationally. Her artwork often features beautiful portraits, animals, abstract landscape, and abstract shapes, rendered in mediums such as acrylic, watercolor, sumi ink, and gouache. Koswara's educational background includes a BFA in Graphic Design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where she graduated in 2001. Her graphic design experience significantly influences her painting style, blending detailed illustration with vibrant colors and abstract forms.
Cancellation Policy
When scheduling classes, please note that workshops will be automatically canceled if enrollment is four participants or fewer. If this occurs, your credit will be applied to the next available workshop of the same name. If no future session is scheduled, a full refund will be issued. Also, you can cancel your class up to 7 days prior to the scheduled date. In the event of a cancellation, you will receive a credit toward your next booking. Please be aware that we do not offer refunds.
