Discover the joy of making your own clothes in this hands-on sewing workshop led by artist and maker Sonya Philip. Drawing from her lifelong love of handcrafted design, Sonya will guide you through the process of creating a simple yet beautiful garment. In this workshop we will stitch up a pair of cropped pants with a relaxed fit! Students will learn how to cut pattern pieces, finish seams and how to make an elastic waistband. The pattern, available in nine sizes, will be provided to take home. This is not a beginning sewing class, you will need to have some basic experience with a sewing machine. Feel free to bring your own, please remember to pack the foot pedal and power cord. BIO: Sonya Philip has always been drawn to making things, inspired by her architect father and designer mother. Raised in a family that valued craftsmanship, she developed a deep appreciation for handmade work. Sonya studied drawing and printmaking before earning an MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College. A self-taught artist, she embraces the freedom to explore and blend mediums, focusing on what she calls ‘conceptual craft.’ Sonya lives in San Francisco with her husband and three children. Cancellation Policy
When scheduling classes, please note that workshops will be automatically canceled if enrollment is four participants or fewer. If this occurs, your credit will be applied to the next available workshop of the same name. If no future session is scheduled, a full refund will be issued. Also, you can cancel your class up to 7 days prior to the scheduled date. In the event of a cancellation, you will receive a credit toward your next booking. Please be aware that we do not offer refunds.
