Making fabric covered books with e bond

October 12th 1:00 - 5:00 Saturday

more about this class

Binding your own books is a fun, challenging and addictive adventure and once you start to add fabric into the mix it gets even better. Join artist e bond in this intimate class setting to learn & practice basic bookbinding skills while making actual books. In this workshop students will learn how to sew a hand made book from start to finish using your orphan quilt blocks or any kind of fabric as book covers. Each student should bring at least 4 orphan quilt blocks (or fabric pieces) from their home stash to make into book covers. You will need two (2) roughly 7x7” blocks to complete the front and back book covers so think of them as pairs. Bring a bunch to choose from if you have them. The final size of the book we make will be roughly 6“ x 6” inches so make sure the blocks or the fabric you bring are at least 7” x 7” inches. You don’t have to pre-cut anything. For this class there is an additional materials fee of $15 (to be paid to the instructor on the day of workshop). This materials fee pays for a kit with binding tools and an instruction booklet from the day’s workshop. Everything else for the class will be covered in the class fee (except the fabric for your covers that you will bring). I will also have fabric on hand you can buy if you don’t have any you love at home. BIO: e bond is an artist, bookbinder, writer and designer currently living in Richmond, CA.
