more about this class
Imaginary Lands: Collage, Landscape and Abstraction . This workshop invites you to explore the landscape as both a visual and emotional idea, using collage as your medium. Working on a wood panel, we’ll focus on the process of layering materials, experimenting with composition, and learning techniques for finishing and preserving your work. You’re welcome to bring a reference photo to ground your piece in a specific place, or approach the project intuitively, letting colors, textures, and shapes guide your interpretation. Together, we’ll consider how found imagery and text can evoke the spirit of a place, creating a layered, thoughtful reflection of the land. Workshop includes a $15 material fee that includes a 6 x 12 x7/8 inch cradled wood panel, archival glue, a glue brush, and a curated collection of assorted handmade, marbled, painted, and found papers. If you’d like to bring your own supplies from home, great! There are scissors available for use in class and you’re also welcome to bring your own. BIO: Erin has a BA in studio art and art history from Beloit College, and an MFA from California College of the Arts in writing. Erin is a faculty member of the 92NY School of the Arts in New York City. With other nonprofits and art centers, Erin teaches collage and mixed media classes and workshops throughout the Bay Area.
