Discover the magic of combining pastels with Gelli printing! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll start by creating your own pastel drawing—whether it’s inspired by a sketch, a still life, or your imagination. Once your pastel artwork is complete, you’ll learn how to transfer it onto a Gelli Plate, adding rich layers and unexpected textures. We’ll roll vibrant acrylic paint over the plate with a rubber brayer, then carefully press the image onto paper. Using simple tools like a wooden spoon, we’ll make sure every detail transfers beautifully. The big reveal happens as you peel the paper back to unveil your one-of-a-kind print — full of layered color and soft, painterly effects. BIO: Alex Bowman is an Oakland-based painter, illustrator, and muralist whose vibrant, figurative work reflects the diversity of her community. Using digital, acrylic, oil, and sculptural elements, she explores themes of representation, celebrating racial, cultural, and gender identities through visual storytelling. Her work has appeared in Smithsonian, The New York Times, and The National Institute of Reproductive Health, and she has illustrated books including Well Read Black Girl and Bay Curious. Bowman has created murals for Patagonia, Stanford University, and The Barbican Museum. She holds a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and teaches at various art programs nationwide.
Cancellation Policy
When scheduling classes, please note that workshops will be automatically canceled if enrollment is four participants or fewer. If this occurs, your credit will be applied to the next available workshop of the same name. If no future session is scheduled, a full refund will be issued. Also, you can cancel your class up to 7 days prior to the scheduled date. In the event of a cancellation, you will receive a credit toward your next booking. Please be aware that we do not offer refunds.
