Fabric Block Printing with Sonya Philip

December 6th Saturday 11:00 - 1:00

more about this class

Fabric Block Printing ~ Come make holiday wrapping or gifts! Are you drawn to the beauty of textiles, patterns, and color? In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of block printing on fabric. We’ll review methods of pattern repetition, explore ink application techniques, and begin with practice designs on muslin before creating a finished 27” x 27” hand-printed bandana. All blocks and stamps will be provided, allowing participants to focus on color and composition rather than carving their own. A wide variety of shapes and designs will be available to choose from. This workshop is designed for all levels, and all materials will be provided. BIO: Sonya studied drawing and printmaking in high school with every intention of going to art school. Life intervened, as did other areas of fascination, eventually leading to an MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College. As a self-taught artist, she enjoys the freedom of exploring and stretching mediums. Preferring to work in project series, Sonya practices what she calls ‘conceptual craft’. More examples of her art can be found at www.sonyaphilip.com. Sonya lives in San Francisco with her husband and three children.
