more about this class

Workshop with Carissa Potter, and Learning to love your line: Drawing as Self-Kindness This workshop invites you into a quiet, nurturing space to draw from a place of self-acceptance rather than perfection. Together, we'll practice letting go of judgment, soften our inner voices, and reconnect with the expressive power of simple marks on paper. "All my life, I’ve wrestled with a paradox: I love making art, but I’ve often hated what I make. Even as a kid, I found so much joy in drawing — until I looked at my work through critical eyes. Or worse, through the imagined gaze of someone else: “That doesn’t look like a nose,” or “The shading’s all wrong.” "When I tell people I’m an artist, I often hear, “Wow, I could never draw.” And I always say, “I can’t draw either — at least not in the way people expect. It never came naturally to me.” Gather your drawing supplies. Paper, pens, pencils — whatever’s in front of you is perfect. Through a series of gentle prompts and drawing exercises, you’ll explore how creativity can become a form of emotional release and personal grounding. We’ll end with a reflective close, honoring the tenderness of the process. Carissa Potter's new book, Breathe Through It, will be available for purchase the day of the workshop.
