more about this class

Erin McClusky Wheeler and Collage Homage Workshop: Lorna Simpson This workshop series blends art history with hands-on exploration in mixed media and collage. We’ll take inspiration from the work of Lorna Simpson, a groundbreaking artist known for her evocative use of imagery, text, and collage to explore themes of identity, race, and culture—often centering on the symbolism of hair. Through an introduction to Simpson’s artistic practice, we’ll examine how she uses shape, color, and composition to create compelling narratives, disrupting ideas about beauty and playing with watercolor and collage. While the workshops emphasize developing your own collage style, her work serves as a springboard for discovering new approaches and refining your visual language. By learning about how these women artists work, you can start to put together your own artist family tree and find your artistic lineage. What to bring: a copy (ideally black and white) of a photograph of a person you would like to transform into a collage.

125 US dollars
